Bignell to visit Central Oval | The Transcontinental

Residents are being encouraged to head to Central Oval on Tuesday as the Minister for Recreation and Sport visits town.

Leon Bignell will be in town for the ?Port Augusta Sports Bites? session which is run by the Office of Recreation and Sport and will involve a range of activities from 2pm to?5pm.

Sports available to try during the afternoon include table tennis, soccer and badminton.

Minister Bignell said the program was a great way to get involved and gain from the many benefits to be had.

?Being involved is sporting activities can bring so many positives to people?s lives,? he said.

?From the health benefits and feeling of achievement to the strengthened sense of community and involvement in a team environment, sport can make a difference in a number of ways.?

The co-ordinating team will be based in front of the grandstand as an initial information point for participants and Mr Bignell encouraged as many people to show up as possible.

?I?d really encourage people to make their way to Central Oval next Tuesday from 2pm and join in the activities.?

During the afternoon the ORS team will be on hand to talk with clubs and individuals about sport and active recreation needs for the region.

They will be able to provide advice and assistance to clubs and organisations planning to apply for a sport and active recreation grant.

In addition to the Sports Bites session, ORS will also conduct a free ?Essentials for Coaching Children? course at the venue from 6-9pm.

Local coaches interested in taking part in this course will need to register by contacting either Russell Coulthard on 8641 3222 or Jynaya Martin on 7424 7605 by Friday, March 15.
