Assalaamualaikum, I was wondering is this type of coffee beans, permissible to use to drink coffee. Here is some more information about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak It is also known as civet coffee. I have received it as a gift, so I was wondering should I keep it or not?

It seems that the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) declared thatcoffee allowed to be consumed by Muslims (halal), as long as the farmers clean the beansbefore grinding them. I see their rational regarding the difference between thenajis (inherently ritually impure) and mutanajjis (afflicted by ritual impurity) andthose coffee beans belonging to the latter category, which may be cleaned. I would deferto their judgment on this matter.
